[Best Peranakan Nyonya Restaurants in Setia Alam , Shah Alam!!]
Is pretty hard this days to find delicious and authenticity nyonya food or also known as peranakan cuisine as the food culture is dying. I'm really glad that Heritage Nyonya cuisine has personally invited me over for food review which located in the heart of Eco  Ardence, Setia AlamHeritage Nyonya cuisine's small cozy delight restaurant whom really cherish the unicity and preserving the peranakan food culture which was handed down from generation to generation. If you're craving for nyonya food, now you don't have to drive all the way to Malacca because at Heritage Nyonya cuisine, you can get it better !!

Let me explain a bit about Peranakan cuisine, Peranakan or Nyonya cuisine comes from the Peranakans, descendants of early Chinese migrants who settled in PenangMalaccaSingapore and Indonesia inter-marrying with local Malays and combines ChineseMalay and other influences. The old Malay word nonya (also spelled nyonya), a term of respect and affection for women of prominent social standing (part "madame" and part "auntie"), has come to refer to the cuisine of the Peranakans.

In terms of color, presentation and also services was top notch!! Food quality control was well prepare and served. Plus their interior design was remarkable with feature of baba nyonya elements into it keeping that authenticity feels while dining at  Heritage Nyonya Cuisine.

1. Main Cuisine

Pandan Chicken with Butterfly Pea Rice RM 14.80
A dish with colorful element put together as one complete meal, this dish is served with butterfly Pea Rice or also known as nasi kerabu, pandan chicken, half boil egg, fried anchovy, white vinegar mix vegetable and peranakan special sambal.

Food Review: I love their rice which have this pleasant sense of fragrance sided with their special sambal which is not too spicy but flavorful is a plus. The pandan chicken was really tender and delicious.
This dish looks really beautiful and definitely Instagram worthy shot!!

Nyonya Prawn Laksa RM 13.80
Craving for nyonya laksa? You got to try them at Heritage Nyonya. Curry Laksa (Curry Mee) is one of the signature dishes of the Malaysian Chinese community. It comes in various versions from mild to spicy with different toppings, depending on region. The common theme is the coconut milk base curried soup with noodles. Nyonya Laksa is slightly different compare to others, the paste used in the laksa comprises no less than eight core ingredients such as shallots, galangal, turmeric, candlenuts, dried chillies and lemongrass to create such tempting fragrance.

Food Review: Surprisingly it wasn't so spicy and texture of the curry was smoothing. The ingredient they used surely fresh.

Asam Laksa RM 13.80
Assam Laksa is very addictive due to the spicy and sour taste of the fish broth. Tamarind is used generously in the soup base and hence the word Assam (means tamarind in Malay). In addition to tamarind, assam keping or peeled tamarind is also commonly added to give it extra tartness. Another secret ingredient is Polygonum leaf (marketed as Vietnamese mint leaf in the United States) or daun kesom/daun laksa. While the best Assam Laksa broth is infused with the aromatic ginger flower (bunga kantan), I made without it because I couldn’t find this special ingredient in the market. Of course, no Assam Laksa is complete without belacan and dollops of heh ko/prawn paste (the dark paste on the spoon).

Food Review: To be honest, the broth of the asam laksa soup was wonderful and the texture of the noodle was well down. Beware of the heh ko/prawn paste which is in the spoon because if you're a fan of prawn paste then don't put too much. If not you might not like it at the end. So slowly add in to adjust the flavor up to your liking.

Jawanese Noodles RM 13.80
Jawa Mee or also known asMie Jawa in Malay is a traditional Javanese style noodle, commonly found Indonesia and Malaysia. The dish is made of yellow noodle, chicken, vegetables, egg and spices. The recipe however, is slightly different between mie Jawa in Indonesia and mee Jawa in Malaysia.

Food Review: Amount all the main courses, I personally love this meal because it has it unique flavor and fragrance. It little spicy but wow, is was good with all the mixture tofu, deep fried prawn cake and fried bean curd skin soaking into the curry.

2. Snacks/Desserts

Chicken Satay RM 10.80
For snacks wise, you got to order this which is the chicken satay !! NO Fats, Perfect marination !! It was so tender and pack with flavor in every bite. Their satay sauce was a little different from what we usually get from else where. Nutty, spicy and a little sour to it .

Nyonya Kuih RM 3.60 per pack for 3
If you love nyonya kuih, here's like a library for you. They have so much of variety here, even some you couldn't find it else where. Every kuih here has it's unique flavor plus what's the point you don't order nyonya kuih when you visited a nyonya restaurant right? Nyonya Kuih is part of the culture and a great dessert to end a delightful meal. At Heritage Nyonya, they have like Kueh talam,Kueh Lapis,Kueh Bingka,Kueh Dadar,Kueh Salat Kueh Koo, and many more .
